THE NEWSLETTER OF STANTON TENNIS CLUB

A.G.M. (CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE MINUTES) - Adobe PDF Viewer Required

The minutes are now on the club’s website at www.stanton-tennis.co.uk. After having had no increase in annual subscriptions for two years it was decided to increase them as follows.

Children of primary school age £7; Juniors and Students £12 and adults £40. These figures are inclusive of affiliation fees to the L.T.A. of £3.50 for each child and junior and £8.50 for each adult. They also include a £2 membership fee to the Stute for each adult member.

CLUB NIGHTS
The first outdoor club night will be at the Stute on Tuesday May 2nd from 6pm onwards for adults. Would any adults interested in playing on a Thursday evening (either at the Stute or indoors) please contact me. This is urgent as if the feeling was that Thursdays should be at the indoor centre we would need to book these ASAP.

JUNIOR CLUB NIGHTS
David Cooke will again supervise these on Wednesdays starting May 10th from 4.30 to 6pm. these are aimed at ages 9 to 15. Practice is particularly important for our younger members! Anyone who could supervise practice for our very young members at another time should get in touch with me.

COACHING
The Tuesday groups will move to the Stute from May 2nd onwards. Because of the coach’s other commitments in the summer we will again revert to sessions from 4pm to 5pm and 5pm to 6pm. I

will be writing separately to parents asking for their comments on how the arrangements have gone for the indoor centre coaching.

OPEN DAY
This is again on May Day, Monday May 1st from 11am to 3pm. We will again be circularising all local primary schools and hope to have as successful a day as last year. All members (both juniors and adults) are asked to come along and enjoy themselves as well as playing with visitors, helping with refreshments etc. what else is there to do on May Day anyway?

INDOOR COURTS
Well we got there in the end, didn’t we, and we were the first ones in!! We have filled it on a Tuesday from 5pm until 10pm and everyone who has played on a Tuesday have done what they have committed to do. We haven’t had a single case of somebody not turning up without giving me as much notice as possible. I am still negotiating with the council officials to secure our Tuesday time slots for next winter. It is possible that we will have to pay a holding fee and if that is the case the feeling at the AGM was that we should pay it.

WIMBLEDON TICKETS
Every adult member paying their sub by May 1st will go in the hat for one of three pairs of tickets. Remember they still have to be paid for if you do win a pair. It is most important that you don’t sell the tickets on as this could lead to us not being allocated tickets again.

CHILD PROTECTION ISSUES
If you have any concerns over our approach to this subject please let me know or contact our Child Welfare Officer, Lorraine Cook on 0115 9327293. This applies whether you think we are not being careful enough or whether you think we are being over zealous.

NEWSLETTER - DECEMBER 2005

Indoor Facilities on the Rutland Recreation Ground
These will be available for club use only from January 1st 2006 and for general public use from March 1st when the outdoor facilities will also open to everyone. At a club committee meeting on December 7th it was agreed that the club should make block bookings as detailed below and this has been done. The details of the method of payment to the council are still being negotiated but it is clear that a payment in advance will be necessary. As soon as we have agreed these details we will let you know but in the interim it would be appreciated if you could initially pay one months fees at the first session you attend. It is likely that a standing order will be the easiest way of managing the payment of fees when the final arrangements are known.

Junior Coaching
As from Tuesday January 10th this will be at the indoor centre and we will be using all three courts, which means that everyone will be coached every week. We hope to maintain the current charge of £3 per session (£12 payable at the first session on January 10th for the four weeks of January). If you have been attending between 4.30pm and 5.30pm at the school gym your new time will be from 5pm to 6pm. If you have been attending between 5.30pm and 6.30pm at the school gym your new time will be 6pm to 7pm. Unless I hear differently from you I will assume that you will be coming to the new indoor centre on the 10th.

Adult Play
As from Tuesday January 10th this will be at the indoor centre from 7pm until 9pm and again we will be using all three courts and the court fee will be £2.25 per person per hour payable at the first session on January 10th for the four weeks of January. Would all adult members wishing to play indoors please phone me preferably before xmas but at the latest before the end of the year to tell me whether you wish to play for one hour or two hours on a Tuesday evening. If this is successful we intend to continue with this arrangement until the end of April when we will resume playing at the Stute as normal. Hopefully we would then start indoors again at the beginning of October.

Club AGM on Thursday March 2nd at 7.30pm at the Stute

This will be an especially important meeting as we will be able to review how the arrangements at the indoor facility are going and whether we have to increase our annual subscriptions in the light of the new arrangements. Please make every effort to attend and, if possible, let me know beforehand if you will be attending.

Xmas Games Morning
One last reminder that this takes place at West Hallam Community Centre on Thursday December 29th from 10am to 12noon (charge of £2 towards hall hire). Suitable for ages 5 to 75 -come in your scruff and have fun. We had a good time last year so the more the merrier this year!

We start again at Ilkeston School on April 12th moving down to the Stute on May 3rd.The sessions then revert to 4pm to 5pm and 5pm to 6pm for the summer due to other tennis commitments the coaches have. Open Day
This will be again on May Day Monday May 2nd from 11am to 3pm. This is our main recruitment effort and we will be contacting all Ilkeston Primary Schools and advertising it widely. All members (both children and adults) are asked to come along and enjoy themselves as well as helping to make the day a success. Offers of help on the day such as playing with visitors, preparing refreshments, running a raffle, would be most welcome so please get in touch with me.

Indoor Courts
We are still keeping in close touch with the council who have now given the go ahead for the remaining work to be carried out. Access details and costs are still not known.

Wimbledon Tickets
Every adult member paying their sub before the end of April will go in the hat for a pair of tickets. We have been allocated three pairs but remember they still have to be paid for even if you win!

Mini Tennis Tournaments and Junior Matches
I will be writing to parents separately on this.

Club Website
Mark Hancock has got this off the ground now at www.stanton-tennis.co.uk we would welcome any contributions and feedback.

Phone Cameras
Rather than an outright ban the club asks all members and parents to adopt a commonsense approach to their use. Anyone with views or concerns on this subject should contact the club chairman, club secretary or club child welfare officer.
