We now have a position open for a qualified and experienced Area Sales Manager (Europe) within our Sales Group at our HQ in Eastwood Nottingham, UK.

As an integral part of our international sales team, the Area Sales Manager will represent the company and maintain a close dialogue with all existing and potential customers in Europe. With responsibility for identifying potential business opportunities, developing relationships and understanding customers’ critical business strategies, the successful candidate will identify new business opportunities, analyse account potential, initiate, develop and close sales to ultimately increase market share in Europe.

About You

Your will have a solid engineering qualification together with a demonstrable track record in technical sales for complex fabrications & bespoke machinery which incorporates electro-mechanical instrumentation and controls, ideally within process flow & control. You must be able to collaborate with others from diverse backgrounds in order to identify requirements and find solutions.

The ideal candidate will have worked in the valve and/or damper industry and possess technical competence, a flair for the commercial aspects of business, and have knowledge of fabrication and manufacturing processes in a custom-made production environment. With a clear aptitude for customer contact and selling of technical products/systems, the European Sales Manager will be able to work independently as well as contribute as a team member to develop and maintain our business.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Generate business by being proactive, make cold calls and analyse account potential.
  • Conduct industry and competitor analysis to identify new business and growth opportunities.
  • Continuously research and be aware of industry activity (eg: prospects, projects). Understand and track the competition.
  • Attend industry trade shows.
  • Seek and select distribution partners and agents, negotiates terms, conditions and proposals. Provide training and knowledge, ultimately managing these partners.
  • Prepare sales proposals and tenders.
  • Effectively lead negotiations with customers and close deals within company guidelines.
  • Review and approve sales contracts within company guidelines.
  • Analyse sales performance and recommend improvements.
  • Make recommendations and approach subcontractors/partnerships when needed.

Essential criteria: Soft Skills

  • A great team player with a positive approach and a commercial outlook.
  • Strong people and time management skills. (Collaborative approach).
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills with customers and team members.
  • Track record of successful estimating & proposal writing.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Software packages (Word, Excel, Power point etc.)
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work to deadlines and respond effectively to demanding customer requests.

Essential criteria: Technical Skills

  • A background working in a technical mechanical engineering environment
  • A competent understanding of engineering and workshop machinery.
  • Able to understand Engineering drawings/specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel.
  • Experience of Large Oil and Gas/ Power projects (desirable).
  • Engineering qualification to HNC/HND level.

Desirable Criteria

  • A working understanding of instrumentation and controls.
  • Some basic electrical knowledge.
  • Engineering qualification to Degree level.

Work location will be at our Headquarters facility in Eastwood, Nottingham (UK), following suitable integration into the team the flexibility to work from home one/two days per week (where agreed).
